Background: This song was written and based on a true story in 1984. The ferry runs from Surry County, Virginia to James City County Virginia. We boarded the last trip of the night and the ferry broke down in the middle of the river. Once running again, we pull to port only to find a piling had fallen into the berth. And the wait was on...
lyrics
1,2 3 and 4 and
Don't you ride the Jamestowne Ferry
Don't you ride, the boat no more!
She will take you, from the dock boy,
but she won't take you ashore!
I was on the Jamestown Ferry.
Spent the night, out on the road!
Asked the captain, when would we get there?
He said "shut your mouth son, and row!"
He said "shut your mouth son, and row!"
He said "pick up that oar and row!"
